The Central Jamia Mosque was the first established
in 1967 to fulfil the needs and the dreams of the
expanding local Muslim community
Muslims felt very passionate about creating a place
of worship and a place where their children could
recieve their religious education
By the late 1970's these premises proved to be
inadequate and in 1982 the adjoining church building
was purchased to expand the premises, again by the
late 1980's as the needs of the community grew these
buildings was being outstripped by demand
The 1990's saw the purchase of land on the corner
of Link Road and Gladstone Street and we are now
seeing the building of a vast purpose built Mosque,
which has clearly changed the skyline of this magnificent
city and will be the second tallest building in
Peterborough

The pages of the Central Jamia Mosque are being
dedicated to three people who worked tirelessly
at these premises at a great personal sacrifice
1) Maullana Ghulam Jilani, this gentleman was the
first Imam in 1967 of this Mosque and worked with
commitment and devotion in purchasing these premises,
I am personally indebted to the Maullana as he was
first person to teach me about Islam through example
and preaching
2) The Late Maullana Abdul Mustafa, The late Maullana
worked tireless for more the 20 years at the Mosque
during which he made many personal sacrifices to
fulfil his dream of serving Allah (saw) and Dean,
Maullana Abdul Mustafa passed away on 24th November
1995, 2 weeks after compiling An Islamic Diary and
prayer time-table
3) The Late Chaudhary Maqbool Hussain was the chairman
of the Mosque committee for a number of years and
was the mastermind of the new Faidhan-E-Madina Mosque
which is well under way to being completed by the
end of the year.
